What does Shopify cost each month in the US?

Shopify describes Basic as for solo entrepreneurs, Grow as for small teams, with up to 5 staff accounts, and Advanced as for global reach, with up to 15 staff accounts and live shipping rates from other carriers.

What are Shopify’s payment fees in the US?

Shopify takes a fee on every card payment made through Shopify Payments, and the rate is lower on the higher plans. Its US pricing page doesn’t list those rates (checked 21 October 2026), so we haven’t printed any. Shopify’s help pages send you to its pricing page or its support team for the rate where you are.

If you use a payment provider other than Shopify Payments, Shopify adds its own fee on top of that provider’s charges:

What do a theme, apps and a domain add?

  • A theme. On 21 October 2026 the Shopify Theme Store had 24 free themes and 1,319 paid ones. Paid themes cost $100 to $500, and a theme is a one-time charge, not a subscription.
  • Apps. The Shopify App Store has more than 13,000 apps, many of them free. Paid apps usually charge a monthly subscription, and Shopify’s own apps (Bundles, Forms, Inbox, Search & Discovery, Subscriptions and Flow) are usually free, according to Shopify.
  • A domain. Domains bought through Shopify typically start at $9 a year.

Shopify doesn’t publish a typical monthly spend on apps. Its own cost guide puts a solo seller’s whole store, with the plan, a free theme, a domain and essential apps, at $30 to $100 a month, and a growing business at $100 to $500 a month.

When we build a store, every app is named with its monthly cost before it’s installed, so you know the running cost before launch.

Do I have to charge sales tax on a US Shopify store?

It depends on where you sell. There’s no single US rate: most states and municipalities have a sales tax, at different rates for different goods, and some goods aren’t taxed at all (USA.gov).

Which states you must collect tax for depends on each state’s own rules, so check with the tax agency of each state you sell into. USA.gov links to every state’s. We set up Shopify’s tax settings with you to match what you’ve confirmed, but we don’t give tax advice.

What does it cost to have a Shopify store built?

Shopify’s own cost guide puts custom-built online stores at $2,000 to $20,000 or more. We build at a fixed price instead, in US dollars, printed before you agree to anything.

What we buildPriceScope and time
A Shopify store$1,250Up to 50 products, live in 2 weeks
Moving a store to Shopify$1,250Up to 300 products, 3 to 4 weeks
Our fixed prices (US dollars, as of October 2026).

What the $1,250 store build includes, and what it doesn’t:

Included
  • A theme set up around your products, colours and logo
  • Or designed from scratch if the brief needs it
  • Up to 50 products loaded
  • Payments, shipping and tax set up
  • Every app named, with its monthly cost, before it is installed
  • Domain connected, a recorded walkthrough, thirty days of fixes
Not included
  • The Shopify subscription, paid by you to Shopify
  • App subscriptions, named and priced before you agree to any
  • A paid theme licence if the design needs one
  • Product photography
  • Product descriptions beyond editing what you send
  • Products above the number included
  • Anything after the thirty days

Payment is in two stages: half to start, half at launch. See what a new Shopify store includes, or moving a store to Shopify if you sell on another platform now.

How do I work out what my store will cost?

  1. 01Pick a plan from the table above, and decide whether to pay monthly or yearly.
  2. 02Add card fees: your expected sales times your plan’s card rate, plus the fixed fee on each order.
  3. 03If you’ll use another payment provider, add Shopify’s fee for your plan (2%, 1% or 0.6%) on top of that provider’s own charges.
  4. 04List the apps you need, with each one’s monthly price from its page in the Shopify App Store.
  5. 05Add the one-off costs: a paid theme if you want one, your domain each year, and the build if you’re hiring someone.

For example, Basic paid yearly comes to $228 for the year ($19 × 12). With a free theme, only free apps and a domain from $9 a year, the first year starts at $237, before card fees.
